President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. Ransford Anerete Abbey as the new Acting Chief Executive Officer. This appointment, made in accordance with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 12(2) of the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 1984, takes effect from January 21, 2025.

As Acting CEO, Dr. Abbey will oversee the daily operations of the Ghana Cocoa Board, which plays a crucial role in the country’s cocoa industry. The board is responsible for regulating cocoa production, processing, and marketing in Ghana.

Dr. Abbey’s appointment is subject to the receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the Board of Ghana Cocoa Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission. Until then, he will work closely with the board members, stakeholders, and the government to ensure the smooth operation of the cocoa industry.

The Ghana Cocoa Board has been instrumental in implementing initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of cocoa farmers, increasing productivity, and promoting sustainability in the cocoa sector. With Dr. Abbey at the helm, the board is expected to continue its efforts to drive growth and development in the industry.
