Mark Boadu Aboagye, CEO of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), has joined the chorus of voices calling for the e-levy to be scrapped. Speaking on GTV’s Breakfast Show, Mr. Aboagye described the e-levy as a “nuisance tax” that has nothing good to offer Ghanaians.
He expressed his support for the Finance Minister’s intention to abolish the e-levy, stating that it’s an ineffective and burdensome tax. Mr. Aboagye argued that there are better ways to generate revenue from taxes, citing the need for a smarter approach to revenue generation.
The GNCCI CEO also highlighted the compounding effect of the e-levy, illustrating how it leads to multiple taxes being taken from a single revenue source. He concluded by calling for more intelligent tax policies that do not place undue burdens on citizens while effectively generating revenue for the nation.
Mr. Aboagye’s remarks emphasize the need for a more transparent and efficient tax system, one that balances the need for revenue generation with the need to protect citizens from excessive taxation.
