Soussoudis’s life was a tapestry of intrigue and espionage, most notably marked by his 1985 arrest by the FBI for attempting to obtain classified military intelligence from his lover, CIA officer Sharon Scranage. This dramatic chapter in his life culminated in a spy swap between the U.S. and Ghana, allowing him to return home without facing trial in the United States.

The burial service was a testament to Soussoudis’s significant impact, with traditional authority well-represented. Dignitaries such as the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, who is also a former President of the National House of Chiefs of Ghana, paid their respects. Togbe Afede XIV acknowledged Soussoudis’s profound influence on Ghana’s modern diplomatic history. Also in attendance were Togbi Nyaho Tamakloe VI who is the Miafiaga of Anlo Kingdom, Paramount Chief & President of Kome Shime Traditional Council, Dufia of Whuti, and Head of the Royal Adzovia Clan among other dignitaries.

The presence of these esteemed figures underscored the deep respect and admiration held for Soussoudis. His legacy, marked by both controversy and commendation, continues to resonate within Ghana’s national narrative. As the nation reflects on his contributions, the burial service served as a poignant reminder of the complexities and sacrifices inherent in the pursuit of national security and diplomacy.
