Tragedy struck in Obuasi when a violent clash at a mining site resulted in the loss of up to eight lives, reportedly all illegal miners. The Government has expressed deep regret over the incident and President John Dramani Mahama has swiftly ordered an immediate investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the clashes.

The President’s directive aims to ensure that those found to have acted unlawfully are held accountable. In addition to the investigation, the Government has instructed Anglo-Gold Ashanti to cover the medical expenses of the injured individuals and facilitate burial arrangements for the deceased.
To prevent similar incidents, the security agencies have been tasked with restoring peace in the area and implementing measures to avoid future clashes. The swift response from the Government demonstrates its commitment to addressing the situation and promoting peace and stability in the region.
