Life Lessons, The Story Of Yayra Koku And The NIA

This story makes me believe that the story of Haman and Mordecai is true

Wisdom Deku popularly known as Yayra Koku is an astute IT personality who was employed at the National Identification Authority as far back as 2007 when President John Kufuor started the National ID cards.

The man was actually one of the brains behind the setting up of the IT system on which the NIA depends to generate our Ghana Cards.

When Prof John Evans Mills won in 2008, the National ID card rollout continued until his unfortunate demise in July 2012.

President John Dramani Mahama took over and revolutionised the National Identification Authority and the National Data Center and laid the fiberoptic cables that became the backbone of the Digitisation and Digitalisation Agenda.

Enter the Non-John President: Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo in 2017.

In fact it is Yayra Koku who is pictured explaining to the former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the now retired NIA Boss, Prof Ken Attafuah the workings in the NIA and progress thus far, and what they were going to inherit.

No sooner had he taught them the ropes, than they handed him a sack letter.

His crime? He is an NDC member!

Yayra Koku could have committed suicide. Meritocracy was sacrificed on the altar of Political affiliation and expediency.

People say he was sacked because he was incompetent. I daresay they should review their notes, because this is the same Yayra Koku whose IT collation system recorded the largest Majority in Parliament for the NDC, and the largest Presidential Margin ever in the History of Elections in the Fourth Republic (or maybe in the whole election history in Ghana).

He cried! He asked God where he was in all these. He prayed! And there was no answer. Or so we all thought. Until now.

Today, Yayra Koku goes back to his cradle, which he built and to a place which he knows inside-out to replace the one who fired him.

Mawu Sogbolisa is alive, and The Almighty remembers and honours whomever He will.

Congratulations, Nɔvinye.
