President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Edward Bawa as the Acting Chief Executive Officer. The appointment, which took effect on January 17, 2025, is in line with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 10(2) of the GNPC Act, 1983.
Bawa, a former Member of Parliament for Bongo, brings a wealth of experience in the energy sector. His background includes serving as the Head of Communication for the World Bank-funded Oil and Gas Capacity Building Project at the Ministry of Petroleum in Accra. As a seasoned politician and energy expert, Bawa is well-equipped to lead the GNPC in advancing Ghana’s energy ambitions.
The appointment is subject to advice from the Minister for Energy, in consultation with the Public Services Commission. President Mahama congratulated Bawa on his new role and wished him success, emphasizing his commitment to strong leadership at the GNPC .
As the Acting CEO, Bawa’s immediate tasks will include fostering collaboration with international energy partners, enhancing local capacity in the petroleum industry, and advancing the government’s green energy transition agenda. His appointment underscores the Mahama administration’s focus on leveraging experienced leadership to navigate the evolving challenges and opportunities within the energy sector.
