In a move aimed at revitalizing Ghana’s gold industry, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Sammy Gyamfi, Esq. as the Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC). This appointment, announced on January 16, 2025, is a significant step towards achieving the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) 2024 manifesto promise.

As the acting MD of PMMC, Gyamfi’s primary task is to establish the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), which will oversee the formalization of the small-scale gold mining sector, enhance sustainable management and marketing of Ghana’s gold resources, and provide vital support services for the mining industry. The GoldBod will operate under the guidance of the Minister for Finance and is expected to drive economic growth and benefit the Ghanaian populace.
Gyamfi brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having worked with Exton Cubic Group Limited, a prominent mining company in Ghana. He is also the National Communications Officer of the NDC. His educational background includes degrees in Environmental Science and Law from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, as well as a Master’s degree in Economic Policy Management from the University of Ghana. Gyamfi has also completed executive programs in Emerging Leaders and Strategic Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School.
The creation of the GoldBod is expected to transform Ghana’s gold industry, fostering transparency, sustainability, and providing critical support to small-scale miners. This move reinforces the Mahama administration’s commitment to economic revitalization and sustainable development.
