President John Mahama’s first day in office was marked by a crucial meeting with Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB). The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen their partnership, focusing on how the AfDB can continue to support and finance major economic and social infrastructure projects in Ghana.
As President Mahama’s government embarks on resetting the economy and revamping critical infrastructure, the AfDB’s support will be instrumental. Ghana’s economic growth has been impacted by global challenges, including the spillover effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which slowed down its real GDP growth from 3.8% in 2022 to 2.9% in 2023.
The meeting between President Mahama and President Adesina is a significant step towards addressing Ghana’s economic challenges. With the AfDB’s backing, Ghana can expect to see significant investments in critical infrastructure, including roads, energy, and water supply. This partnership will be vital in driving economic growth, creating jobs, and improving the lives of Ghanaians.
