Ahmed M. Gedel Writes:

In a brazen display of impunity, the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana Jean Mensah has embarked on a reckless journey to subvert the will of the people. The recent re-collation and declaration of results for nine disputed constituencies is a blatant affront to the democratic principles and electoral laws of Ghana.

This egregious act is a stark reminder of the EC’s penchant for disregarding the rule of law and operating with unbridled arrogance. The affected constituencies, namely Nsawam-Adoagyiri (Eastern Region), Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, and Obuasi East (Ashanti Region), Dome-Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central (Greater Accra Region), as well as Techiman South (Bono East Region), have been thrown into a state of uncertainty and chaos.

The EC’s actions have created a sense of unease among the electorate, who are rightly questioning the integrity of the electoral process.
Madam Jean Mensa and her cohorts have, once again, demonstrated their penchant for lawlessness and disregard for the electoral laws of Ghana.

Their actions are a clear indication that they have turned themselves into the law, operating with impunity and disregarding the very principles that govern their actions. The EC’s leadership has abandoned its constitutional mandate to uphold the integrity of the electoral process, instead choosing to pursue a path of partisan interests and personal aggrandizement.

The re-collation and declaration of results is a stark reminder of the EC’s lack of transparency and accountability. The commission’s actions are shrouded in secrecy, with little regard for the principles of fairness and justice. The people of Ghana deserve better than an electoral commission that operates with such blatant disregard for the law and the democratic process.

As the nation grapples with the implications of the EC’s actions, it is imperative that we demand accountability and transparency from those entrusted with the sacred duty of overseeing our electoral process. The people of Ghana will not stand idly by while their democratic rights are trampled upon by an electoral commission that has lost sight of its constitutional mandate.
We must rise up and demand that the EC operates within the bounds of the law and respects the will of the people. Anything less would be a betrayal of the trust and confidence that the people of Ghana have reposed in the electoral commission.

The time for accountability is now, and we must seize it with both hands to ensure that our democracy is protected and preserved for generations to come.
