In Ghana, the mindset towards government officials needs a significant shift if we are to progress as a nation. The prevailing attitude among some citizens is that securing a position in government equates to instant wealth and an obligation to distribute money to friends and constituent members .This misconception, deeply rooted in our culture, must be eradicated.

Government positions, whether as a cabinet minister or a parliamentarian, are not golden tickets to personal riches. They are calls to service, opportunities to work diligently for the betterment of all Ghanaians. These roles should be about implementing policies that improve lives, not about becoming a Father Christmas figure, handing out money from personal coffers.

If we, as citizens, reduce the financial pressure on our leaders, they might not feel compelled to seek illegal means to enrich themselves. By shifting our expectations from handouts to sustainable development, we can foster a culture of accountability and integrity.

Imagine a Ghana where citizens demand job creation and entrepreneurial support instead of personal favors. A nation where leaders are held to their promises of economic growth and social development. This change starts with us. We must say enough is enough to the culture of handouts and instead, ask our leaders to teach us how to fish, rather than giving us fish.

By doing so, we can create a more self-reliant and prosperous Ghana, where government officials are true servants of the people, dedicated to the nation’s progress.

Our country stands at a pivotal threshold, where each one of us must embrace a shift in mindset to set Ghana back on the path to greatness.
