The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, the global Board of Bishops will be visiting Ghana from December 14 to 20, 2024. This marks the first time in the church’s over 200-year history that the Board of Bishops, mostly based in the United States, will be visiting an African country as a group.

During their week-long stay, the bishops will engage in media sessions, visit Keta, Anloga, and Cape Coast, and make courtesy calls on President Akufo Addo, President-Elect John Mahama, and the U.S. Ambassador to Ghana. They will also attend the Chapel Dedication Service of the St. John Society, the oldest A.M.E. Zion church in Ghana, established in 1899.

The team, led by Rt. Rev. Dr. Hilliard K. Dela Dogbe, the first indigenous African Resident Bishop and President of the Board of Bishops, will tour notable sites in Accra, including the Dubois Center and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.

This historic visit underscores the church’s commitment to its global community and its rich history in Ghana, dating back to 1898 when Bishop John Bryan Small established the first A.M.E. Zion church and school in Keta.
