Longtime Chicago Resident, Nana Poku , is reported dead in Ghana

Yesterday, November 25, 2024, the Ghanaian community mourned the peaceful passing of Nana Poku in Ghana. At 80, he leaves behind a legacy woven with countless contributions to both his homeland and his adopted city of Chicago.

Before relocating to Ghana a few years ago, Nana Poku was a vibrant and active member of the Chicago community. His passing was announced across social media platforms, touching hearts in both Ghana and the Chicago area.

One poignant message shared on WhatsApp read, “Hello and trust everyone is good. This is to inform you that the late Nana Akwasi Appiah’s uncle (NANA POKU) passed this morning in Ghana. Kindly keep the family in prayers. It is well with us all IJN. Blessings.” On Facebook,Ms.Felicia Apprey wrote a heartfelt tribute declaring , “Was not expecting this today! This is a hard one for me and for those that knew him. Nana Poku will forever be a legend in our community. He will be missed! So many beautiful childhood memories. My heart is with you and your family Vanessa Tolbert🖤🖤🖤!”

A self-made man in the cab industry, Nana Poku was more than an entrepreneur; he was a guiding star for many immigrants navigating new lives in Chicago. As one of the pioneering members of the Asanteman Association of Chicago and the Midwest, he was a steadfast pillar, offering counsel and support to those in need.
