The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation (MoCD) has launched the third batch of its “Girls-in-ICT” program in the Ashanti Region, training 1,000 girls across 47 districts. This initiative aims to empower women and girls for leadership roles, aligning with Ghana’s goal and the global theme of “Leadership.”

The training covers essential areas such as basic ICT skills, coding, website design, social media, internet safety, game development, and animation. Since 2012, Ghana has celebrated Girls-in-ICT, training over 13,981 girls and women.

According to Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, “Through such initiatives, Ghana is making strides toward achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5, supported by the ICT4AD Policy to bridge the gender digital divide.”

The program consists of teacher training, student training, mentorship sessions, and a climax event where top performers receive awards and certificates. Outstanding girls receive prizes such as laptops and cash, while top-performing schools receive ICT labs. The top 100 girls will also participate in an Open Day in Accra, touring ICT companies and interacting with women professionals.

This initiative encourages girls to pursue ICT careers, providing them with skills and inspiration to thrive in a digital world. By bridging the gender digital divide, Ghana is investing in the future of its women and girls, empowering them to become leaders in the ICT sector.
