Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, has been cleared by the Sekondi High Court to contest the upcoming December 7 elections. This ruling, delivered on Monday, November 11, 2024, is a significant development in her candidacy, as it lifts an injunction that had previously prevented her from running.
The case, presided over by Justice George K. Gyan-Kontoh, had been adjourned earlier to allow for negotiations, but ultimately, the court decided to lift the injunction, paving the way for Gyan Cudjoe to focus on her campaign. Her lawyer, Edudzie Tamakloe, had urged the court to consider the substantive disqualification case, emphasizing the importance of resolving the matter promptly to avoid disenfranchising Gyan Cudjoe.
With this ruling, Gyan Cudjoe can now fully engage with the electoral process and work towards a successful outcome. The people of Amenfi Central will have the opportunity to choose their preferred candidate, and Gyan Cudjoe is ready to make her case. She expressed her gratitude to God, her lawyers, and the NDC members and executives, stating, “I must say I am very happy.”
This development is expected to energize Gyan Cudjoe’s campaign and boost her chances of winning the parliamentary seat. The case has been resolved in time for the upcoming elections, clearing the path for the NDC candidate to contest the Amenfi Central seat.
