Former President John Dramani Mahama has weighed in on the current parliamentary dispute, suggesting that dialogue and negotiation would have been a more effective approach to resolving the issue. Speaking in Kumasi, Mr. Mahama emphasized the importance of collaborative problem-solving in politics, arguing that the contentious legal battle surrounding Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant should be settled through discussion rather than judicial intervention.
Mr. Mahama’s comments come amid criticism of Bagbin’s decision, with some arguing that the Speaker overstepped his constitutional authority. The 2024 National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer reiterated that, as president, he would have sought to resolve the matter through talks rather than legal proceedings.
This approach, Mahama believes, would have benefited all parties involved and avoided the current impasse. His stance highlights the value of dialogue in resolving political conflicts and underscores the need for leaders to engage in constructive discussion to find mutually beneficial solutions.
