Assembly members in the Ledzokuku Municipality are up in arms over Health Minister Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye’s decision to relocate and rehabilitate the Teshie Community Clinic. A letter dated October 16, 2024, revealed that the minister directed the clinic’s management to relocate urgently, citing the community’s significant population growth, which has put pressure on the facility.
However, the concerned assembly members and residents are unhappy with the timing of the relocation. They argue that having another health facility in the area would be ideal, especially considering the destruction of the La General Hospital, which remains incomplete after seven years.
Emmanuel Saint Kabu, Assembly member for the Kesikor Electoral area and Chairman of the Social Services Sub Committee at the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly, expressed concerns at a press conference held at the clinic’s forecourt. Kabu emphasized the need for alternative healthcare options, given the clinic’s importance to the community.
The relocation plan has sparked worries among residents, who fear that the rehabilitation process may leave them without access to essential healthcare services. The Ledzokuku Municipality has experienced significant growth, with a population of over 280,000 residents…. The Teshie Community Clinic plays a vital role in providing healthcare services to this community.
As the debate surrounding the relocation continues, residents and assembly members await clarification from the Health Minister on the rehabilitation plans and alternative healthcare arrangements.
