Ghana has taken a giant leap in healthcare delivery with the launch of the National E-Health Project, dubbed Lightwave Health Information Management System (LHIMS). Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia commissioned the system, praising its impact on improving healthcare access and accuracy.
LHIMS provides real-time data collection, disease surveillance, and management tools, enabling informed health policy decisions. Over 21 million people have been captured on the system, eliminating siloed patient records. Significant benefits include: Improved patient wait times (35-40% reduction). Average annual savings of 50,000 to 300,000. Enhanced telemedicine capabilities.
Minister of Health Okoe Boye hailed LHIMS as a game-changer. With its security, reliability, and availability of electronic data, Ghana’s healthcare landscape is poised for sustainable growth.
