As Ghana prepares for its 2024 general election on December 7, Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South, Darkoa Newman, has issued a powerful call to action to the country’s youth. Speaking at a peace concert organized by the Adventist Chior Union, Madam Newman emphasized that Ghana’s peace can only be protected through a collaborative effort from both the government and all stakeholders, including the youth.

The peace concert, attended by frontline politicians, security service personnel, and the church’s youth, aimed to facilitate dialogue on maintaining peace before, during, and after the election. Madam Newman stressed that the election will be a test of Ghana’s democracy and that it’s everyone’s responsibility to safeguard the country’s peace and stability.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Joseph Abednego Atsah echoed this sentiment, assuring that the Ghana Police is committed to ensuring a peaceful election. He called on Ghanaians to support the police in their efforts to maintain peace.

Dr. James Kwabena Bomfe, representing the Adventist Church, highlighted the church’s push for changing the electoral calendar to a non-denominational day. This change would enable all believers to exercise their franchise and is set to be considered for the 2028 presidential and parliamentary election.

As Ghana approaches this critical election, it’s clear that maintaining peace requires a collective effort. By working together, Ghanaians can ensure a peaceful and democratic process.
