ECOWAS Commission Prez Dr. Touray Visits Former Nigerian Vice Prez Ahead of Ghana’s General Elections

Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, paid a courtesy visit to former Nigerian Vice President Namadi Sambo at his Abuja residence on October 29, 2024. The visit was a crucial step in preparing for the deployment of the ECOWAS observation mission team to Ghana’s general elections, scheduled for December 7, 2024.

Dr. Touray extended an invitation to Sambo to lead the ECOWAS observation team in Ghana. Accompanied by Ambassador Abdel-Fatau Musah, Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Dr. Touray briefed Sambo on Ghana’s current political developments and the arrangements in place for a successful mission.

Sambo accepted the invitation, describing it as a service to the community. He drew on his experience leading the election observation mission in Niger Republic’s 2020 general elections, which was a success. Sambo assured Dr. Touray of his availability to work with the ECOWAS team and prayed for peaceful elections in Ghana.
