Reports reaching Sankofaonline say Akua Donkor, founder and flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party, has passed away. According to reliable sources, Madam Donkor died Monday at 10 PM at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital), where she was receiving medical attention.
Akua Donkor was a prominent Ghanaian politician and cocoa farmer born in February 1952 in Afigya Kwabre District, Ashanti Region. She founded the Ghana Freedom Party to further her presidential ambitions. Donkor previously contested in 2012, 2016, and 2020 presidential elections, with her most recent bid being the 2024 presidential election, where she selected radio host Roman Fada as her running mate.
Throughout her political career, Donkor advocated for free education from primary to secondary levels, eradication of import taxes, and establishing a free zone at the port of Tema. Her party’s slogan, “Love and Unity,” reflected her vision for Ghana.
