The 6 Garrison commemorated International Breast Cancer Awareness Month on October 25, 2024, under the theme “Screen Early, Live Longer, Join the Fight.” This impactful event adopted a three-tiered approach, featuring concurrent activities.

A health walk kicked off the event at Bawah Barracks and Camp Nyohini, promoting physical wellness. Participants then attended an educational talk, enhancing understanding of breast cancer’s risks, symptoms and prevention strategies.

Brigadier General Frank Nartey Tei, General Officer Commanding Northern Command, emphasized the importance of breast examinations and early detection. He encouraged personnel to seize the screening opportunity, stressing that timely treatment saves lives. Tei also urged against stigmatizing affected friends and family members.

Dauda Issaka, Northern Regional Manager of Services Integrity Service and Loans, highlighted breast cancer’s alarming statistics: the most common cancer and second leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally. Issaka rallied attendees to join forces against breast cancer, striving to make it a curable condition.

The comprehensive event offered free breast screenings to numerous Garrison personnel and their families. This proactive initiative fosters awareness, promotes prevention and supports those affected.
