The Ghanaian community gathered in full force to celebrate Germinatu Amaa Papafio at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, 6330 West 127th Street, Palos Heights, Illinois. The turnout was monumental, with over 800 attendees, making this the largest gathering for such an event.

From early evening, it was clear that the church would struggle to accommodate the flood of celebrants. By 10 PM, the vast parking lot was filled, signaling to latecomers that they were in for a crowded evening. Every corner of the venue was packed: the main hall’s seats were all occupied, the hallway buzzed with activity, and the drinks room was particularly congested, with many choosing to stay close to the refreshments. Over 40 people stood in the gallery at one point, a testament to the immense turnout of people who came to pay their respects.

Notable among the attendees were Mr. Kasim Abubakari, President of the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago (GNC), and his Vice President, Mrs. Eunice Cromwell. Also in attendance were Reverend Dr. Kofi Noonoo, President of the Ghanaian Council of Churches, Mr. Clement Timpo and Paa Kwasi Sam, former presidents of the GNC, Nana Okutseaku VIII, President of the Ghanaian Council of Chiefs and Chief of the Fante Benevolent Society and others.
