A solemn vigil was held on Friday, October 18, 2024, in memory of Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, two students of Cornerstone International Academy who lost their lives in a fatal car accident on Saturday, October 12.
The emotional ceremony, attended by families, students, and members of the East Legon community, took place at the site of the accident. Mourners gathered in silent reflection, holding candles and flowers, as they paid tribute to the young girls whose futures were tragically cut short.
The accident occurred when 16-year-old Elrad Salifu Amoako lost control of a Jaguar SUV, colliding with a 4×4 Acura vehicle driven by Joseph Ackah. The collision resulted in both vehicles catching fire, claiming the lives of Justine and Maame.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Elrad’s parents, Bishop Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, were arrested and later granted bail set at GH¢50,000. Bishop Amoako publicly apologized to the families of the victims, seeking forgiveness and expressing deep sorrow.
The vigil served as a poignant reminder of the devastating consequences of reckless driving and the importance of road safety. As the community comes to terms with the loss, they remain united in their support for the grieving families.
The Cornerstone International Academy community and beyond will deeply miss Justine and Maame, whose lives were filled with promise and potential. May their memories live on, inspiring others to cherish life’s precious moments.
