The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has issued a statement correcting the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) claim that the revised Provisional Voters Register (PVR) would be available within a week ¹. According to the EC, Chairperson Jean Mensa announced during the televised IPAC meeting that the revised PVR would be provided to political parties and uploaded online within two weeks or earlier, not one week.
The NDC had stated that they accepted the EC’s promise to release the corrected/updated version of the 2024 Provisional Voters Register for scrutiny within one week. However, the EC emphasizes that the Chairperson’s remarks were misinterpreted.
To provide clarity, the EC has attached the unedited video of the Chairperson’s closing remarks. This move aims to dispel any confusion and ensure transparency in the electoral process.
The EC’s commitment to fairness and integrity was reaffirmed by Chairperson Jean Mensa, who assured stakeholders of a level playing field for all candidates and political parties in the 2024 general elections ². The commission’s primary goal is to deliver a credible, fair, peaceful, and transparent electoral process.
As Ghana prepares for the upcoming elections, the EC’s clarification on the revised voters register timeline underscores its dedication to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.
