STOPGALAMSEY- Labour Strike: Imani President Urges Onward March Against Galamsey

Franklin Cudjoe, President of Imani, has thrown his weight behind organized labour’s nationwide strike against state-sponsored illegal mining, also known as galamsey. Cudjoe emphasized that calling off the strike would be “foolish” given the government’s lack of seriousness in combating the menace .

The fight against galamsey has been a longstanding concern in Ghana, with widespread environmental degradation and water pollution resulting from illegal mining activities. Despite government assurances, many Ghanaians feel that not enough is being done to address the issue.

Cudjoe’s statement comes as a rebuke to President Akufo-Addo’s administration, which has been accused of inaction in the face of galamsey’s devastating effects. The President, his Vice-President, and the entire government have been criticized for failing to take concrete steps to combat the problem.

With tensions running high, organized labour’s strike has brought renewed attention to the issue. Cudjoe’s endorsement is likely to galvanize support for the strike, as Ghanaians demand meaningful action from their leaders.

As the strike continues, all eyes are on the government to respond with tangible measures to address the galamsey menace.
