Ghana’s progress in the mining sector has caught the attention of neighboring countries, with Tanzania being the latest to seek guidance. A three-member Tanzanian delegation, led by Assistant Commissioner of Mines Archard Kalugendo, met with Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, George Mireku Duker.
During the meeting on October 1, 2024, Duker highlighted Ghana’s mining industry features. He praised Tanzania’s willingness to learn from Ghana, emphasizing the importance of knowledge sharing and support.
Ghana’s mining industry is on track to achieve refinement of discovered resources, aligning with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s vision to make Ghana a hub of value addition in West Africa. The establishment of Ghana Integrated Aluminum Development Corporation and Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel has brought this goal closer.
The Gold for Oil Policy was also discussed, showcasing Ghana’s approach to leveraging its natural resources. This policy has been instrumental in Ghana’s economic growth.
As Ghana shares its expertise with other African nations, its position in the mining sector is solidified. Ghana’s commitment to mining practices and value addition inspires cooperation and growth across the continent.
Ghana is set to continue playing a significant role in shaping the mining industry in Africa, with its expertise serving as a model for other countries. The meeting between Ghana and Tanzania marks the beginning of a fruitful collaboration.
