The management of the Anlo Afiadenyigba Health Centre, led by Juliet Ama Anaglo, the officer in charge, has made a passionate appeal for an urgent upgrade of the facility to a polyclinic. This health centre, which serves over ten communities, is currently in a state of disrepair, severely limiting its capacity to provide effective healthcare services to the local population.
The call for intervention has garnered support from key local leaders, including Gabriel Korbla Kuatsikor, Assemblyman for Dziehe-Ablame, and Torgbui Kadzahklo Drabese, the Paramount Chief of the Anlo Afiadenyigba Traditional Area. Together, they are raising concerns about the centre’s poor infrastructure and the need for an upgrade to meet the growing healthcare demands of the surrounding communities.
“The Anlo Afiadenyigba Health Centre is the primary healthcare provider for numerous communities, yet it lacks basic amenities and infrastructure,” Anaglo explained. “The facility’s current state hinders our ability to deliver adequate medical care, placing the health and well-being of our people in jeopardy.”
The health centre faces critical challenges, such as a shortage of medical equipment, limited space, and a severe lack of healthcare professionals. The building is also falling apart, with structural issues such as crumbling walls, leaking roofs, and an unstable electricity supply. These shortcomings force many patients to travel long distances to access specialized care that is unavailable at the centre, putting their health at further risk.
Assemblyman Kuatsikor stressed the urgency of upgrading the health centre, saying, “The transition to a polyclinic is not just a desire but a necessity. We need a facility that can offer essential services such as maternity care, emergency treatment, and other specialized medical services. This upgrade will not only save lives but also improve overall health outcomes for the people in our communities.”
Torgbui Kadzahklo Drabese also emphasized the importance of ensuring access to quality healthcare for the local population. “The health of our people is our collective responsibility. Upgrading the Anlo Afiadenyigba Health Centre is a critical step in providing our communities with the healthcare they need and deserve.”
The local leaders are urging the government, non-governmental organizations, and philanthropists to help in transforming the health centre. They argue that with adequate support, the facility can expand its services, reduce the pressure on regional hospitals, and better address the medical needs of the local population.
“We are committed to working together to make this transformation a reality,” Anaglo added. “Our community deserves a healthcare facility that meets their needs. With the backing of our leaders and external support, we can turn this vision into reality.”
As the Anlo Afiadenyigba Health Centre continues to struggle with its current limitations, the call for urgent help remains a top priority. The proposed upgrade to a polyclinic is viewed as a crucial step in improving healthcare delivery and ensuring that the people of Anlo Afiadenyigba and surrounding areas receive the quality medical care they urgently need.
