Ghana’s Diplomatic Affairs and Media Communications Limited (DAMC) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration made history on September 14, 2024, with the maiden edition of the Diplomatic Honours event. Held at the Accra International Conference Centre, the event celebrated individuals and institutions that have significantly contributed to Ghana’s foreign relations.
Themed “Leveraging Diplomacy for Industrialisation, Sustainable Development, Peace and Security,” the event highlighted the crucial role diplomacy plays in driving industrial growth and global cooperation. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, emphasized diplomacy’s indispensable role in today’s interconnected world.
The Diplomatic Honours represents a significant evolution in the Ministry’s tradition of celebrating foreign relations achievements. Ayorkor Botchwey recalled the 2018 award of the Group of 10 (G10) Pioneer Foreign Service Officers, noting that the Diplomatic Honours will recognize not only Foreign Service Officers but also Ghanaian nationals and institutions that have made notable contributions to Ghana’s foreign relations .
Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, H.E. Maher Kheir, stressed the vital role diplomats play in fostering global understanding, peace, and cooperation. He highlighted their work in guiding conversations, negotiations, and collaborations that shape the shared future of nations.
The event marked an important milestone in Ghana’s diplomatic efforts, acknowledging the achievements of those who have worked tirelessly to promote the country’s interests abroad. As Ghana continues to navigate the complexities of global relations, the Diplomatic Honours event serves as a testament to the power of diplomacy in shaping a brighter future.
