A high-level delegation from Namibia’s Ministry of Information and Communication Technology paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s Minister for Information, Honourable Fatimatu Abubakar, in Accra yesterday. Led by Deputy Director in charge of production, Mr. Shasimana Uugulu, the team expressed Namibia’s interest in learning from Ghana’s implementation of the Brand Ghana agenda and the Right to Information (RTI) law.
The visit aimed to explore ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, including combating misinformation and potentially signing a memorandum of understanding to share expertise and knowledge. Honourable Abubakar emphasized the crucial role of political willingness and commitment in instituting the Brand Ghana agenda.
She encouraged Namibia to attract its diasporan African community to trace their roots, while offering Ghana’s technical assistance in implementing Namibia’s RTI law and Brand Namibia project. The Minister also invited the team to participate in the global conference on International Day for Universal Access to Information, scheduled in Accra from October 1-2, 2024.
This visit follows a similar benchmarking visit by the Namibian delegation to the National Communications Authority (NCA) on September 17, 2024, seeking perspectives on best practices in the regulatory field ยน. The collaboration between Ghana and Namibia is expected to foster greater cooperation and knowledge sharing in the information and communication technology sector.
