Accra, Ghana – Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Tong Defa, has praised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s participation in the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in Beijing.
The summit, attended by leaders from 53 African countries, aimed to strengthen China-Africa ties. Mr. Tong commended the growing bilateral relations between China and Ghana, noting President Akufo-Addo’s busy schedule yielded fruitful results.
During the visit, President Akufo-Addo attended a welcoming banquet hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping and met with various Chinese officials. Mr. Tong highlighted Ghana’s long-standing diplomatic relations with China, spanning over 60 years, and Ghana’s support for China’s stance on human rights.
The Ambassador emphasized the importance of cooperation, citing an Akan proverb: “Baanu so, a emmia” (When two carry, it does not hurt). He stressed that China and Africa need to stay united, especially in a world undergoing significant changes.
The FOCAC Summit, Mr. Tong believes, paints a bright future for China-Africa cooperation, with the potential to give fresh impetus to Global South cooperation and build a community with a shared future for mankind.
