Sunyani, Ghana – The Energy Commission has intensified its training program for Certified Electrical Wiring Professionals and Certified Electrical Wiring Inspectors to ensure they are up-to-date with the latest trends and regulations. The training session, held in Sunyani, aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent electrical fires and ensure safety in electrical wiring work.

Mr. Awal Sakim Mohammed, President of the Ghana Electrical Contractors Association and Lead Trainer for the Ghana Energy Commission, emphasized the importance of the training in preventing electrical fires. He noted that the training would help participants to operate as prescribed in the Electrical Wiring Regulations, LI 2008.

The training focused on Professional Inspection and Testing to achieve uniformity in wiring across the country. Participants were also introduced to equipment required for their work. Mr. Akwasi Essandoh, a facilitator, reminded inspectors to work within their certification and avoid undertaking works they are not certified to do.

The President of the Bono Ahafo and Bono East Certified Electrical Wiring Inspectors, Mr. Pinkrang Mainnooh, welcomed the training session, saying it would be of great help to electricians. One of the wiring inspectors, Mr. Michael Dono, shared his thoughts on the training session, expressing hope that regular training would reduce electrical wiring-related incidents.

The training is part of the Energy Commission’s efforts to ensure safety, quality electrical wiring work, and adherence to rigorous testing standards. With only 65 qualified Certified Electrical Wiring Inspectors in the Bono, Ahafo, and Bono East Regions, the training is crucial in preventing electrical fires and ensuring public safety.
