The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition has called on the Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia, and his NDC counterpart, Former President John Mahama, to ensure the passage of the Conduct of Public Officers Bill into law.
The GACC Executive Secretary, Mrs. Beauty Emefa Narteh, made this challenge in an interview with GBCNEWS on the sidelines of the Anti-Corruption Sensitization and Capacity Building Project forum. She said the bill, currently at the cabinet level, must be passed before the 2024 General Election to show their commitment to fighting corruption.
Ghana has struggled with corruption for decades. The country loses money annually to corruption, hindering development efforts. The GACC’s project aims to empower citizens to demand accountability from politicians, with support from the EU and collaborations with partners.
Mrs. Narteh’s challenge comes as the project engages organizations, Chiefs, the Clergy, Government Agencies, and NGOs in discussions on topics like corruption’s effects on development, the Whistle-Blowers Act, and the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
Will the presidential hopefuls rise to the challenge and prioritize fighting corruption? Only time will tell.
