The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is poised for a significant discovery in the country’s oil and gas sector, with the Voltaian Basin, a promising onshore petroleum area, showing great potential for major finds.
After years of extensive geological and geophysical surveys, GNPC has de-risked the basin, paving the way for drilling operations to commence soon. Michael Aryeetey, GNPC’s Manager for Exploration and Appraisal, confirmed the corporation’s readiness to start drilling, with an exploration license granting GNPC Explorco up to three years to drill.
The license is expected to attract further investment and partnerships, with GNPC’s strategic focus on local content and capacity-building positioning the corporation for sustainable exploration and production. A successful development of the Voltaian Basin could herald a new era in Ghana’s oil and gas industry, promising significant benefits for the country, particularly in energy security.
As GNPC prepares to embark on this critical phase of exploration, the nation holds its breath in anticipation of a major breakthrough that could transform Ghana’s energy landscape and propel the country towards a brighter economic future.
