Minister of Land and Resources Samuel Abu Jinapor denied allegations that lands under his administration have been stolen and sold. The accusations, made by MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, claimed that state institutions’ lands were sold by the government.
Minister Jinapor said the allegations are motivated by politics and are false. He said public lands are often politicized during election cycles. He said the same tactic is being employed in the lead-up to the 2024 elections, with claims of public lands being sold and stolen.
Jinapor challenged anyone with evidence of land sales or theft to come forward. He said no one can provide proof to support these claims. He also addressed questions about the Achimota Forest, explaining that the government granted approval for the return of some land to the Owoo family in 2013.
The Minister said 362 acres of the land had already been leased when he took office and decisions were made to return this portion of the Achimota Forest to the Owoo family. He said the facts and data at the Lands Commission show that the lands were sold under the Mahama administration in 2016.
Minister Jinapor called out the motives behind the allegations, urging the public to be cautious of misinformation in the lead-up to the elections.
