TAMALE, GHANA – Former President John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to abolish the controversial double-track system of senior high school education if elected in the upcoming polls.

Addressing a packed crowd during the launch of the NDC’s 2024 campaign in Tamale on Saturday, Mahama criticized the current system, which forces students to stay home for four months before returning to school. “We want to ensure that our children have the same scheduled period for school, without the prolonged breaks,” he emphasized.

Mahama promised to improve the Free SHS Policy, consulting with teachers and stakeholders to develop a comprehensive implementation plan. He also announced partnerships with the private sector to build hostels on university lands, prioritizing the safety of tertiary students.

Furthermore, the former President vowed to revamp the National Health Insurance Scheme, making healthcare more accessible and affordable for all Ghanaians.

Mahama’s promises resonated with the crowd, as he positioned the NDC as a champion of education and healthcare reform. With the campaign season heating up, the former President’s commitments are likely to spark intense debate and scrutiny in the coming weeks.
