During the National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign launch in Tamale on Saturday, July 27, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, criticized the Akufo-Addo administration for widespread corruption. She emphasized that corruption is the greatest threat to democracy, accusing the current government of “blatant corruption.”
“Corruption has been presided over by this government,” Agyeman-Rawlings stated, pledging that under John Mahama’sleadership, the NDC would uphold zero tolerance for corruption. She called on party members to maintain their principles and resist any attempts to be bribed. “We must hold onto principles that can’t be bought with money. Let’s protect the ballot boxes and do not allow yourself to be misled by the money people will bring your way,” she urged.
National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi echoed this sentiment, predicting a change of government in the 2024 general election. He described the Akufo-Addo government as incompetent and assured that “change is coming.”
Campaign Director Professor Joshua Alabi also expressed confidence that Ghanaians would vote for the NDC, noting a growing awareness among the populace. “The people are very awake and they have seen the truth,” he said.
Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a member of the NDC’s manifesto committee, outlined the party’s goal to win 14 out of the 18 seats in the Northern Region. Despite the Volta Region being the NDC’s stronghold, he emphasized that the Northern Region drives the party’s energy. He attributed the NDC’s optimism to the Akufo-Addo administration’s economic mismanagement, stating, “People have seen the abysmal performance; every single sector of the economy is in a mess.”
