Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin congratulated Kotoko on their win, praising both teams for their competitive spirit and sportsmanship. He announced that Kotoko would be sponsored to face DC United in the United States later this year, urging the team to prepare well and make Ghana proud.
The Speaker emphasized the significance of the Democracy Cup, highlighting its potential to boost Ghana’s democracy and lead the way for Africa. The event saw Parliament XI defeat Black Stars Legends 3-1 in the curtain-raiser, setting the tone for a day of exciting football.
Dignitaries in attendance included Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif, who all joined in celebrating Ghanaian football and democracy.
