In a symbolic gesture, a parliamentary delegation led by Andrews Asiamah Amoako, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, presented the Democracy Cup to the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and the Police Administration. The presentation took place on July 16, 2024, at the Police Headquarters.
The Democracy Cup is an initiative aimed at promoting parliamentary democracy through sports. The cup will be contested by two of Ghana’s premier football clubs, Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko, at the Accra Sports Stadium on July 17, 2024.
The delegation’s visit to the Police Administration was to officially invite the police leadership to the highly anticipated match. Hon. Amoako emphasized the significance of the Democracy Cup in fostering a spirit of unity and promoting Ghana’s democratic values.
Inspector-General Dr. Dampare expressed his appreciation for the invitation and assured the delegation of the police’s support in ensuring a peaceful and successful event. He also commended the initiative, highlighting the importance of sports in promoting national cohesion and development.
