Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has launched the construction of the Namburugu STEM College of Education, a groundbreaking tertiary institution dedicated to training STEM instructors for schools across Ghana. Located in Karaga, Northern Region, this pioneering college will prepare educators to teach Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in Senior High Schools and other educational institutions.
Speaking at the ceremony, VP Bawumia emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming the education sector to meet the demands of the 21st century. He highlighted various initiatives, including Free Senior High School, TVET education, modern ICT-based schools, specialized STEM High Schools, and the recent distribution of Tablets to SHS students.
Deputy Minister of Education, Hon Rev Ntim Fordjour, urged the contractors to deliver a quality project promptly, revealing that the college will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including accommodation for male and female students, an 800-seater Auditorium, ICT Centre, and living quarters for staff.
Since 2017, the government has invested in constructing STEM schools across Ghana, including Awaso STEM School, Abomosu STEM School, Bosomtwe Girls STEM School, and Kpasemkpe STEM School, among others. These institutions have been integrated into the education mainstream, admitting their first batch of students.
The Namburugu STEM College of Education marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s education sector, poised to shape the minds of future generations and prepare them for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
