A group of youth in Pusiga, Upper East Region, destroyed a structure in the community on Saturday, June 22, 2024, but contrary to initial reports, the incident was not sparked by political rivalry.
According to police investigations, the destruction was the result of a misunderstanding between the youth and some community elders. The Ghana Police Service made the announcement in a release posted on their social media platforms.
The police have engaged with community authorities and have determined that the viral video claiming political rivalry was a misrepresentation of the facts. The police are urging the public to be cautious of disinformation that can cause fear and panic.
The authorities are working with stakeholders to resolve the matter and apprehend those responsible for the destruction and the spread of false information. The police are committed to ensuring justice is served and peace is maintained in the community. This was disclosed in a release posted on the social media platforms of the Ghana Police Service.
“The Ghana Police Service is investigating the destruction of a structure in Pusiga in the Upper East Region by some youth in the community on Saturday, 22nd June 2024.
Police investigation including engagement with some authorities in the community so far suggest the destruction of the structure is not due to political rivalry as claimed in the viral video but rather, it was as a result of a misunderstanding between the youth and some elders of the community.
The Police would therefore like to caution the public against disinformation which has the tendency to cause fear and panic. The Police are working with all stakeholders in the community to get the matter resolved while efforts are ongoing to get the perpetrators behind the destruction and the disinformation arrested to face justice.”
