Ghanaian actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, has been arrested by the Manhyia Divisional Police Command in connection with a tragic accident that claimed the life of a three-year-old boy. The incident occurred on May 25 in Amakom, Kumasi, just hours before the premiere of Lil Win’s movie, “A Country Called Ghana,” at the KNUST auditorium.
The fatal collision involved Lil Win’s branded Mercedes-Benz and another vehicle, in which the young victim, Richard Nana Yaw Ampomah, was seated in the front passenger seat. Eyewitnesses reported that Lil Win was driving at high speed when the crash happened. The boy’s father, Jacob Ampomah, who was driving the vehicle, sustained a fractured leg and is still undergoing treatment.
Richard Nana Yaw Ampomah tragically passed away at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital later that day. Lil Win was also treated at the same hospital and was arrested upon his discharge on Monday morning. He is expected to be processed for court.
Following the accident, the bereaved family quickly buried the three-year-old boy. In the meantime, Lil Win faced criticism for allegedly neglecting the accident victims to attend his movie premiere on the same day the accident occurred. Despite his injuries, he appeared at the premiere that night.
In a statement released last week, Lil Win refuted the family’s allegations of neglect, explaining that he attended the premiere to support other injured crew members. He later apologized for his “insensitive comment” and announced the postponement of his movie premiere in Sunyani to mourn with the bereaved family.
