In this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates in Ghana, final-year junior high school (JHS) students will contend with three new subjects:
- Career Technology: Derived from the former Basic Design and Technology (BDT) curriculum, this subject will be mandatory for all candidates.
- Creative Art and Design: This subject is also derived from the BDT curriculum and is compulsory for all BECE candidates.
- Arabic: Arabic will be optional for candidates in Islamic primary schools.
The examination period will extend to six days, from Monday, July 8, 2024, to Monday, July 15, 2024. The official timetable released by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) outlines the examination schedule, with subjects such as English Language and Religious and Moral Education kicking off proceedings on Monday, July 8, 2024. Subsequent days will see a diverse range of subjects tested, culminating in French and Career Technology on Friday, July 12, 2024.
