It’s heartwarming to see how communities come together to celebrate the life of a loved one who has passed away. The concept of a death anniversary, or ‘angelversary,’ is indeed significant. While it can be a painful day for many, it also serves as a way to remember and honor the person who has left us. Each person’s grieving process is unique; some find solace in commemorating this day.

Amid such feelings, one of the elders of the Ghanaian community in Chicago, Mrs. Kate Annang, organized a one-year Thanksgiving Service to celebrate and honor her late sister, Venolia Adrah-Ocloo. The event occurred at the Church of the Ghanaian community of Chicago, 5500 S. Woodlawn, Chicago, Illinois.
The Service theme, “A Life Worth Celebrating,” is powerful. It reminds us to cherish our moments, live fully, and appreciate our impact on others during our time on Earth. Reverend Emmanuel Betson’s message encourages the faithful to embrace life and find joy amidst grief and life worthy of celebrating. ” The purpose of your life is to serve humanity” Rev Betson charged the faithful.
Indeed, Reverend Betson’s message carries a profound truth. The idea that our purpose in life is to serve humanity resonates across cultures and spiritual beliefs. When we dedicate ourselves to helping others, we create a positive impact that extends far beyond our individual existence.Serving humanity takes many forms, and each act, no matter how small, contributes to the greater good.
The church choir’s spirit-filled praises and the bereaved family’s delicious variety of Ghanaian food created a sense of community and shared memories.
Adjoa Aboagyewaa Amponsah’s leadership during this service played a central role in creating a meaningful and uplifting experience for attendees. Her guidance and words of inspiration touched the hearts of those present, fostering a sense of thankfulness.
May Venolia’s memory continue to inspire and uplift those who knew her.
