Ghanaians In Chicago Celebrate The Late Sylvester Shaffa

Chicago, Saturday, April 20, 2024: The Ghanaian community in Chicago gathered in solidarity to honor the memory of the late Sylvester Shaffa Edward Addai (AKA Wofa Kofi Boye). The traditional event, held at the 83rd and Ellis Community Center, witnessed a heartfelt outpouring of support for the bereaved Addai family. The President of the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago ( GNC) Mr. Kassim Abubakari and his Vice , Mrs. Eunice Cromwell, were in attendance . Former Presidents of the GNC , Mr. Paa Kwasi Sam , Mr. Clement Timpo ,Rev. Dr. Kofi Aaba Noonoo, President of the Ghana Council of Churches and others were also present. Members of the Bono and Ahafo Association of USA and Canada came in their numbers .

Representatives from various affiliated organizations of the GNC stood united in their commitment to stand by the family during this difficult time. Tributes flowed freely, celebrating Shaffa’s humble life and boundless generosity. His distinctive hairstyle, etched in the memories of community members, will forever be a cherished symbol.

The commemoration blended traditional customs with a memorial service. The Leak and Sons Funeral Home hosted the solemn memorial, while the vibrant traditional celebrations unfolded at the 83rd and Ellis Community Center. The echoes of Ghanaian culture resonated, evoking memories of communal gatherings back home to honor those who have passed on.

The Emcee, Mr. Kwame Addo Akuffo , showcased a remarkable talent, leaving the audience spellbound. Meanwhile, Deejay Odikro skillfully curated an electrifying playlist, ensuring that the crowd danced to great selections throughout the event. Their contributions added an unforgettable rhythm to the commemoration of Sylvester Shaffa’s life.

Funeral Rites in Ghana: For those in Ghana, the burial and final funeral rites are scheduled for May 11, 2024 at Jema, Bono East. Friends and sympathizers are warmly invited to pay their last respects and bid farewell to Sylvester Shaffa.
