The Presbyterian Church Of Ghana, Redemption Congregation Chicago, Attains District Status

The Presbyterian Church Of Ghana, Redemption Congregation, Chicago, was elevated to a Full District Status on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at a special divine Service officiated by Reverend James Joseph Kumi Duodu. Rev. Duodu is the current Chairperson of the North America and Australia Presbytery (NAAP). He was assisted by Rev. Dr. RK Awuku Gyampoh, NAAP Clerk; Rev. Dr. R.O. Asenso, Ohio /Illinois District Minister; and Professor Mabel Asante, NAAP Lay Representative to General Assembly Council, GAC.

The Chicago District comprises the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Redemption Congregation, Chicago; Trinity Congregation in Bolingbrook, Ebenezer Preaching Point, Minnesota; and Faith Preaching Point, Lansing, Michigan.

Delivering the sermon on the theme: “Growth In Faith, Love, And Peace.” he recalled John Chapter 13: 34 & 35, where Jesus told his followers, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this, everyone will know you are my disciples if you love one another.”

He further explained that Love is like a divine magnet by which believers are charged to love each other .

He congratulated the members and leadership of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Redemption Congregation for the elevation to full district status, noting that the astonishing achievement is evidence of their dedication and hard work.

He applauded them for their commitment to serving the church and spreading God’s word, which has paid off. He noted that as they celebrate this significant landmark, he will continue to pray that God would guide and lead them.

He also charged the leadership not to rest on their oars, saying, “Remember that the district comes with more responsibilities. I do not however doubt that you will rise to the occasion and positively impact the Presbytery”.

In his message of Goodwill, the first Resident Minister of the church, Reverend Samuel Afoakwa Badu, said, “Brothers and sisters in the Lord, on the occasion of elevating Chicago sub-district to a district status, I join the Saints, the host of angelic voices and the entire faith community to express my sincere gratitude to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for his faithfulness and goodness thus far. Indeed, the elevation depicts God’s intentions for His Church and beyond, HALLELUJAH!!”

Other Goodwill messages were received from Rev. Dr. Ransford K. Awuku-Gyampoh, Rev. Dr. R.O. Asenso, Rev. Christian Bekoe Appenteng, Rev. Dr. Frank Addo, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Ofosu-Addo and Rev. Martin R. Ofori.

The elevation makes church administration, growth, and Christian nurturing more effective, Elder Christiana Osei Wusu noted.

People from all walks of life attended the spirit filled and colorful ceremony. They include members of the Presbyterian fraternity, Clergy, and Members of other Christian denominations in Chicago.

Rev. Appau Danso, the Presbytery Director of Mission and Evangelism; Rev. Dr. Obiri Yeboah; Director of Education, Rev. Felix Botchwey; and Rev. Martin Anom attended. Four Catechists, Representatives from the Presbyters’ Conference, and members from Columbus and Cincinnati Presbyterian churches were all in attendance to support their brethren .

Reverend Dr. Kofi Nonoo, The President of the Council of Ghanaian Churches in Chicago, was in attendance, as was Reverend Emmanuel Betson, Resident Pastor of the Church of the Ghanaian Community of Chicago, and others.

The church’s choir, Echoes of Glory, and singing band’s selections of great gospel songs and music created a soul-filled atmosphere that touched hearts and lifted the audiences spirits.
