Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has declared his support for the abolition of Value Added Tax (VAT) on electricity consumption.

In a statement on Facebook in support of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) stance on the tax, Mr. Mahama opined that it would further burden Ghanaians who are already struggling from economic hardship.

He observed that the decision would increase tariffs by 21%, bringing in its trail, an increase in food prices, goods and services and transportation fares.

He maintained that, as long as President Akufo Addo and Vice President Bawumia remained in power, Ghanaians would continue to suffer.

He cautioned government to use the recently released $600 million by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), responsibly.

He assured Ghanaians the NDC would address the nation’s problems when it assumes power in January 2025, promising to create well-paying jobs through the 24 hour economy policy vision.
