Mrs. Mama Oye Nunoo was engaged as a Production Assistant at Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in 1985. She began her career in the Production Department and rose through the ranks to the grade of Senior Producer/Director in the Television Division.
While at GBC, she continued to pursue her education and training at the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) in Accra, National Film and Television Training Institute in Accra, British Counsel in Accra, Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development in Germany as well as, Deutsche Welle Television Training Centre (DW TV) in Germany. Later, she decided to leave her job at GBC and started her own company, Narrowway Productions.
Mama Oye, produced and directed numerous drama series that aired on the Corporation’s network, GTV. Notable among her productions were Osofo Dadzie, Obra and TV Theatre, amongst others. She also introduced the ever popular Concert Party drama series that aired on the premier station.
Mrs. Nunoo identified, trained and mentored great Actors/Artistes who began from very humble beginnings and rose to fame, such as ‘Jagger Pee’ – Avenger of TV Theatre fame and ‘Kyeiwaa’ of Akan Drama series.
She also worked with famous actors like ‘Maame Dorkunu’, David Dontoh, ‘Adjoa Smart’, just to name a few.
Mama Oye loved the arts and exhibited adept writing skills for stage productions, especially, drama. She scripted and directed the Oforiwa Series which aired on GTV in 2014. She was dynamic, confident, affable and meticulous in the discharge of her duties.
She retired voluntarily from the service of the Corporation on 1st November 1, 2004 and continued to work with the Corporation as an independent producer.
She contributed her quota to mother Ghana through the production of drama series for entertainment, education and information.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family and we pray that the good LORD will receive her soul in repose.
Mama Oye undertook major projects during her time at GBC such as the UN-sponsored documentary that sought to promote entrepreneurship among the youth in 1997, documentaries for District Assemblies on developmental projects between 2003- 2005, a pilot program for a TV series on social injustices against women titled Oforiwaa in 2008, she collaborated with the Ministry of Culture and Chieftaincy Affairs for the creation of an indigenous African theatre in 2010, a promotional drama for 2012 population for housing census and Lastly a drama production based on the African Concept of Christmas.
