Communities surrounding Akosombo, Kpong Dams warmed of possible controlled spillage
The Volta River Authority (VRA) has forewarned residents living in surrounding communities of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams of a possible controlled spillage from the dams in the coming days.

In a statement issued by the VRA, the possible controlled spillage from the two dams, is due to the observed consistent high rise in the reservoir elevation of the dams over the past few weeks.
According to the VRA, if there is continuous rise in the reservoir of the dams, the Authority will have no other option but to spill water from the dams to maintain the integrity of the dams.
“If the current situation persists, it may result in the possible controlled spilling from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams from November 1, 2022 to maintain the integrity of the dams,” it noted.
“The reservoir elevation today, October 25, 2022, is 273.70 feet and is expected to reach the maximum operational level of 276 feet in the next eleven (11) days if the rate of inflow continues.
“We will continue to monitor and review the inflow situation,” it added.
