Annual Youth Day takes place in various Christian churches and denominations, and the Church of the Ghanaian Community of Chicago is no exception. Today’s service as always was dedicated to celebrating and spiritually empowering the youth who hold the future of the church. The youth read Bible texts and recited bible verses. The older youth were decorated with ribbons and presented with various sums of monetary gifts. The day is also used to mark back-to-school activities which include encouragement of the youth to stay in school.
In his sermon themed “Don’t start what you can’t finish,” Rev. Betson challenged the youth to make choices that will be beneficial to their future. “Don’t be a loser, don’t be a failure. Young people, I challenge you with the wisdom of Solomon. Your life will be limited without education,” Rev. Betson advised.
