President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment that supports private sector investment, industrial expansion and large-scale job creation, following a working visit to the Bright International Industrial Zone at Afienya. During the tour, the President described the rapid growth of manufacturing activity within the enclave as a powerful indicator of renewed confidence in Ghana’s economy and industrial future.

The President cited Ghana’s US$2.62 billion Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows recorded in 2025 as evidence of increasing investor confidence, expressing optimism that the Government’s New Economy Policy would further strengthen the country’s attractiveness as a destination for global capital and industrial investment.

As part of the visit, President Mahama toured a number of manufacturing facilities operating within the industrial zone, including companies engaged in battery production, renewable energy technology, garment manufacturing and vehicle assembly. The President inspected operations at Huaguang Battery Ghana, a manufacturer of industrial batteries, Zema New Energy, which produces solar panels and batteries, Jiudine Ghana Corporation, which manufactures T-shirts and sweaters, Qianfeng International Corporation Limited, a producer of sports vests and caps, as well as the Funsheen Truck Assembly Plant.

The diversity of industries operating within the enclave reflects Ghana’s growing manufacturing capacity and the increasing sophistication of its industrial sector. From clean energy technologies and battery production to textiles and automotive assembly, the factories represent strategic industries with strong potential for export growth, technology transfer and employment generation.

President Mahama noted that the significant increase in the number of factories operating within the zone compared to his previous visit demonstrates the momentum that industrialisation is gaining under the Government’s economic transformation agenda. He observed that many of the companies have already adopted shift-based production systems, creating opportunities for workers to be employed during morning, afternoon and night shifts.

The development, he said, provides a practical demonstration of the Government’s 24-Hour Economy initiative, which seeks to maximize productivity by encouraging continuous operations across key sectors of the economy.

The policy is expected to increase industrial output, improve asset utilisation, strengthen supply chains and create sustainable employment opportunities, particularly for young people.

Beyond job creation, industry observers believe the expansion of manufacturing activities within the Bright International Industrial Zone positions Ghana to become a major production and distribution hub for the West African sub-region. The presence of battery manufacturing, solar energy production, garment exports and vehicle assembly creates opportunities for value addition, import substitution and increased exports under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

President Mahama reiterated Government’s determination to address infrastructure constraints and provide the necessary support to enable industries to operate competitively and at full capacity. He stressed that the private sector remains central to Ghana’s economic transformation agenda and assured investors of continued collaboration to expand industrial production and unlock new opportunities for growth.

The President’s visit underscored the growing role of the Bright International Industrial Zone as a symbol of Ghana’s industrial resurgence, where investment, innovation and enterprise are converging to drive economic transformation. As manufacturing activity expands and factories increasingly operate around the clock, the enclave is emerging as a tangible example of how the 24-Hour Economy policy can translate from vision to reality, creating jobs, boosting exports, attracting new investment and laying the foundation for a more competitive, resilient and industrialized Ghana.
